Honolulu (Hawaiian for "sheltered bay") is a consolidated city-county, and one of the five counties in the state of Hawai'i. It was formed in 1907 by combining the governments of the city of Honolulu with that of the former Oahu County. As of the 2010 census the population was 953,207, up from 876,156 in 2000.

Honolulu County has an area of 2,126.85 sq mi (5,508.5 km2), of which only 599.77 sq mi (1,553.4 km2) is land. It is an island, and as such it has no land boundaries. It's closest neighbors are Kaua'i County, 105 miles to the northwest, and Maui County, 31 miles to the southeast.

Honolulu is also the state capitol of Hawai'i, and the birthplace of Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States.
