Mellette is one of the 66 counties in the state of South Dakota. It was created in 1909 from parts of Jackson, Meyer, Washabaugh, and Pratt counties. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,048. The county seat is White River. The county has 1,311 square miles of area.
