San Bernardino (named for Saint Bernadino of Siena) is one of the 58 counties in the state of California. It was created in 1853 from parts of Los Angeles county. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,035,210, up from 1,709,434 in 2000. The county seat and largest city is San Bernardino.

The county has an astounding 20,105 square miles (52,070 km2) in area, more than each of the nine smallest states, more than the four smallest states combined, and more than seventy-one sovereign nations, making it the largest county in the United States. San Bernardino is bordered by Riverside County on the south, Orange County on the southwest, Los Angeles and Kern counties on the west, Inyo County on the north, Clark County, Nevada on the northeast, Mojave County, Arizona on the east and La Paz County, Arizona on the southeast.
